過去汽車車窗玻璃的裝配方法是用丁基橡膠密封條將玻璃的四邊鑲嵌于車身的窗框上。這種裝配法不僅工作量大，而且外觀不佳，玻璃與車身之間的結(jié)合力不高。若發(fā)生撞車事故時，車窗玻璃易脫離并損壞，急速停車甚至有使駕駛員和乘客被從車前窗拋出的危險。

美國通用汽車公司1961年首先開發(fā)了“車玻璃直接裝配法”，該裝配工藝是用MS密封膠及其他附件將轎車風(fēng)擋玻璃直接粘接于車窗框上并同時完成密封。70年代中期，美國汽車制造業(yè)開始采用單組分濕氣固化型MS密封膠來粘接車窗玻璃，它的粘接強度高，彈性好、耐老化、耐各種有機溶劑，使用也比較簡便。這種用于汽車工業(yè)的MS密封膠具有較高且長期耐久的粘接力，因而有時也稱為MS密封膠或結(jié)構(gòu)膠粘劑。這種具有粘接和密封雙重功能的膠可稱作“MS密封膠/膠粘劑”。與原用的橡膠密封條玻璃裝配工藝及其它膠粘劑相比較，單組分MS密封膠能將車窗玻璃與車身牢固地結(jié)合成為一個整體，提高車體的剛性及抗扭曲能力，密封性明顯改善，安全性、可靠性大幅度增加。同時這種裝配工藝可以減輕車身自重，有利于車體動力學(xué)設(shè)計。現(xiàn)在國內(nèi)外中高檔汽車、客車幾乎100%地用單組分MS密封膠來粘接車窗玻璃(包括風(fēng)擋玻璃、側(cè)窗玻璃和后窗玻璃等)。

隨著汽車制造工業(yè)的飛速發(fā)展和高分子復(fù)合才力工業(yè)的進步，汽車車身的制造也由原來的全部以鋼板制造轉(zhuǎn)向鋼板一塑料車身和全塑料車身上來。這種結(jié)構(gòu)的改變提高了車身的耐腐蝕能力，降低車身自重，有利于車身設(shè)計，減少空氣阻力，阻尼降噪，增加駕乘舒適性。目前在汽車是普遍采用的是玻璃鋼結(jié)構(gòu)，比如車身頂蓋，客車前后圍，車身板，倉門等部位采用玻璃鋼的形式已經(jīng)比較多。所采用的膠粘劑一般是單組分濕固化MS密封膠，該膠使用方便，粘接強度高，彈性好。采用粘接工藝后，增加車的整體剛性，大大提高了車輛在高速行駛中的安全性。http://www.www.sunsage.net/
